Characteristics of Shape Defects of Submerged Arc Welded Joints

Nov. 19, 2016

We are stainless steel wire manufacturer, so we learn more about steel wires. Here I will tell you 10 characteristics of shape defects of submerged arc welded joints.

1. No penetration

The lack of penetration means that the root of the welded joint is not completely penetrated.

2. Not fused

The part of combination is not melted completely between the base metal or between the weld, during welding.

3. Slagging

After welding residual slag in the weld slag.

4. Inclusions

As a result of welding metallurgical reaction, after welding residual metal in the weld metal inclusions for the non-metallic inclusions.

5. Undercut

Due to welding parameters and process is not accurate, along the toe of the base metal parts of the groove or depression is called undercut.

6. Welding tumor

Welding process, the molten metal flowing to the weld is not melted on the base metal is formed on the welding tumor.

7. Burn through

Welding process, the molten metal from the back of the groove out of the formation of perforation defects.

8. Dent

After welding in the weld surface or the back of the weld surface to form a lower part of the surface of the base metal parts.

9. Not soldered

Due to lack of filler metal in the weld surface to form a continuous or intermittent groove.

10. Collapse

Single-sided fusion welding, due to improper welding process, resulting in excessive weld metal through the back, so that the weld appears to collapse, the phenomenon of the back of the raised.
